Having themselves been emancipated from the superstitions and slavery of a false doctrine and a harsh ecclesiastical government, it would be thought most natural that the Reformers and those who followed them should promptly turn their attention to spreading these glad tidings among non-Christian peoples; but here a strange anomaly is found in the fact that there had been hardly any period, in the entire history of the Christian Church, so destitute of any concerted effort to spread the gospel in heathen lands [as] just this period of the Reformation.

This same philosophy is a good horse in the stable, but an arrant jade on a journey.

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/46491

This same philosophy is a good horse in the stable, but an arrant jade on a journey.

It's not the plan that is important, it's the planning.

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/9890

It's not the plan that is important, it's the planning.

Bird of the amber beak, Bird of the golden wing! Thy dower is thy carolling; Thou hast ...

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/5200

Bird of the amber beak, Bird of the golden wing! Thy dower is thy carolling; Thou hast not far to seek Thy bread, nor needest wine To make thy utterance divine; Thou art canopied and clothed And unto Song bethrothed.

It's like driving a car at night. This, combined with exactness and breadth of scholarship, led him so to translate the Greek New Testament into English as largely to determine the character, form, and style of the Authorized Version. There have been some painstaking calculations to determine just how large a part Tyndale may have had in the production of the version of 1611. A comparison of Tyndale's version of I John and that of the Authorized Version shows that nine-tenths of the latter is retained from the martyred translator's work. Paul's Epistle to the Ephesians retains five-sixths of Tyndale's translation. These proportions are maintained throughout the entire New Testament. Such an influence as that upon the English Bible cannot be attributed to any other man in all the past. More than that, Tyndale set a standard for the English language that molded in part the character and style of the tongue during the great Elizabethan era and all subsequent time. He gave the language fixity, volubleness, grace, beauty, simplicity, and directness. His influence as a man of letters was permanent on the style and literary taste of the English people, and of all who admire the superiority and epochal character of the literature of the sixteenth century.

Never again are we to look at the stars, as we did when we were children, and wonder how far ...

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/6481

Never again are we to look at the stars, as we did when we were children, and wonder how far it is to God. A being outside our world would be a spectator, looking on but taking no part in this life, where we try to be brave despite all the bafflement. A god who created, and withdrew, could be mighty, but he could not be love. Who could love a God remote, when suffering is our lot? Our God is closer than our problems, for they are out there, to be faced; He is here, beside us, Emmanuel.

What if in Scotland's wilds we viel'd our head, Where tempests whistle round the sordid bed; Where the rug's ...

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/19625

What if in Scotland's wilds we viel'd our head, Where tempests whistle round the sordid bed; Where the rug's two-fold use we might display, By night a blanket, and a plaid by day.

Feast of Nicholas, Bishop of Myra, c.326 He that is alive may know that he was born, though he ...

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/7272

Feast of Nicholas, Bishop of Myra, c.326 He that is alive may know that he was born, though he know neither the place where nor the time when he was so; and so may he that is spiritually alive, and hath ground of evidence that he is so, that he was born again, though he know neither when, nor where, nor how. And this case is usual in persons of quiet natural tempers, who have had the advantage of education under means of light and grace. God ofttimes, in such persons, begins and carries on the work of his grace insensibly, so that they come to good growth and maturity before they know that they are alive.

The best way to persuade people is with your ears - by listening to them.

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/46411

The best way to persuade people is with your ears - by listening to them.

He is the freeman whom the truth makes free, And all are slaves besides.

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/16676

He is the freeman whom the truth makes free, And all are slaves besides.

I think it'll be viewed as positive action.
