Even if we were first to grant the presence of a "Christendom" situation [where] Church and State would be virtually coextensive, the nation of Israel would still remain unique. The focus of salvation is on the historical action of God in forming a people for Himself, and there is no indication anywhere in the Bible that God promises political salvation even inside the context of the full salvation of His people, let alone outside it.

The inifinite is in the finite of every instant.

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/59322

The inifinite is in the finite of every instant.

Bind her, grind her, burn her with fire, Cast her ashes into the sea,-- She shall escape, she shall ...

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/13916

Bind her, grind her, burn her with fire, Cast her ashes into the sea,-- She shall escape, she shall aspire, She shall arise to make men free; She shall arise in a sacred scorn, Lighting the lives that are yet unborn, Spirit supernal, splendor eternal, England!

Do not plan for ventures before finishing what's at hand.

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/9896

Do not plan for ventures before finishing what's at hand.

The thought hath good leggs, and the quill a good tongue.

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/49920

The thought hath good leggs, and the quill a good tongue.

When you're out there hiking with the girls at 5:30 and you see the other girls working out just as ...

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/32113

When you're out there hiking with the girls at 5:30 and you see the other girls working out just as hard as you are and panting and puffing ... you feel like you have to go on because they're going on.

We hear about constitutional rights, free speech and the free press. I say not, I will follow Thee whithersoever Thou goest, for I am weak, but I give myself to Thee, to lead me anywhither. ... John Henry Newman September 10, 2000 Evangelism is not an option for the Christian life. ... Luis Palau September 11, 2000 Lord, behold our family here assembled. We thank Thee for this place in which we dwell; for the love that unites us; for the peace accorded us this day; for the hope with which we expect the morrow; for the health, the work, the food, and the bright skies that make our lives delightful; for our friends in all parts of the earth, and our friendly helpers in this foreign isle [Samoa]... Give us courage, gaiety, and the quiet mind. Spare to us our friends, soften to us our enemies. Bless us, if it may be, in all our innocent endeavors. If it may not be, give us the strength to encounter that which is to come, that we be brave in peril, constant in tribulation, temperate in wrath, and in all changes of fortune and down to the gates of death, loyal and loving to one another. ... Robert Louis Stevenson September 12, 2000 Devotion is the real spiritual sweetness which takes away all bitterness from mortifications, and prevents consolations from disagreeing with the soul; it cures the poor of sadness, and the rich of presumption; it keeps the oppressed from feeling desolate, and the prosperous from insolence: it averts sadness from the lonely, and dissipation from social life; it is as warmth in winter and as refreshing dew in summer; it knows how to abound and how to suffer want, how to profit alike by honour and by contempt; it accepts gladness and sadness with an even mind, and fills men's hearts with a wondrous sweetness.

You're never too old to become younger

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/62529

You're never too old to become younger

If you could only love enough, you could be the mostpowerful person in the world.

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/22393

If you could only love enough, you could be the mostpowerful person in the world.

One must marry one's feelings to one's beliefs and ideas. Secular education seems to me intellectually clean and comprehensible. Moral instruction seems to me unclean, intolerable; I would destroy it with fire. Teaching the Old Testament by itself means teaching ancient Hebrew ethics, which are simple, barbaric rudimentary, and, to a Christian, unsatisfying. Teaching moral instruction means teaching modern London, Birmingham and Boston ethics, which are not barbaric and rudimentary, but are corrupt, hysterical and crawling with worms, and which are to a Christian, not unsatisfying but detestable. The old Jew who says that you must fight only for your tribe is inadequate; but the modern prig who says you must never fight for anything is substantially and specifically immoral. I know quite well, of course, that the unreligious ethics suggested for modern schools do not verbally assert these things; they only talk about peaceful reform, true Christianity, and the importance of Count Tolstoy. It is all a matter of tone and implication--but then, so is all teaching. Education is implication. It is not the things you say which children respect; when you say things, they very commonly laugh and do the opposite. It is the things you assume that really sink into them. It is the things you forget even to teach that they learn.

It's guid to be merry and wise, It's guid to be honest and true, It's guid to support Caledonia's ...

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/54888

It's guid to be merry and wise, It's guid to be honest and true, It's guid to support Caledonia's cause, And bide by the buff and the blue!

The hope of escaping with impunity is the greatest incentive to vice.

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/48877

The hope of escaping with impunity is the greatest incentive to vice.

Trying to define yourself is like trying to bite your own teeth.

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/20303

Trying to define yourself is like trying to bite your own teeth.

Marriage is our last, best chance to grow up.

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/2003

Marriage is our last, best chance to grow up.

The early heat-up in temperatures and the relatively few number of days with rain have definitely contributed to the early ...

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/40992

The early heat-up in temperatures and the relatively few number of days with rain have definitely contributed to the early heat-up in housing sales.

[Microsoft's omnipresence was apparent at the show in statements from executives of open source companies.] Microsoft is the largest software ...

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/40464

[Microsoft's omnipresence was apparent at the show in statements from executives of open source companies.] Microsoft is the largest software company in the world.
