Education can receive from the Bible a faith concerning man far more realistic than the naive faith by which education has tried to live. Not man as "pure reason": his reason is not pure. Not man as incipient angel: he can turn any structure... to good or to demonic purpose. Not man with his steps on the highroad called evolution: he is relatively free and, therefore, can and does wreck any evolution unless some Grace constantly renews his onward journey. Not man who by his science is sure to fashion a "brave new world"; by science he can destroy the world. Not man as centrally and characteristically a reasonable creature who needs only that his mind shall be educated to build a reasonable world. Not man regarded in any naive faith, but man as potentially divine and potentially unworthy, who stands always in need of help from beyond the confines of the natural order. If education confronts this faith, education will know that the mind's adventure also, like all things human, stands in need of redemption; and it can then proceed with lowliness, and thus with the power and light which are the reward of the lowly.

What, wouldst thou have a serpent sting thee twice?

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/20902

What, wouldst thou have a serpent sting thee twice?

You're only young once, but you can be immature forever.

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/1784

You're only young once, but you can be immature forever.

Humiliating to human pride as it may be, we must recognize that the advance and even the preservation of civilization ...

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/56942

Humiliating to human pride as it may be, we must recognize that the advance and even the preservation of civilization are dependent upon a maximum of opportunity for accidents to happen.

With our business solution in place we are far ahead of any alliance competitor.

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/36815

With our business solution in place we are far ahead of any alliance competitor.

ORIGINALITY is unexplored territory. It would assuredly make a difference if Christians, in their approach one to another, realized that, in spite of appearances, they were in fact one. If, in their seeking after external reunion, they realized that they were seeking not to create a unity which does not yet exist, but to find an expression for a unity which does exist, which is indeed the one elemental reality, they would approach one another in a better frame of mind. The common recognition of the principle would in itself be a unifying force of great value, and would dispose those who shared it to approach questions of difference in a spirit of unity which would immensely assist their deliberations.

I've been married to one Marxist and one Fascist, and neither one would take the garbage out.

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/26445

I've been married to one Marxist and one Fascist, and neither one would take the garbage out.

At USC, if you're running back there, and you do gain you over 1,500 yards, people see you as a ...

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/41469

At USC, if you're running back there, and you do gain you over 1,500 yards, people see you as a candidate, but not one of the top ones.

Only one who devotes himself to a cause with his whole strength and soul can be a true master.
