If he does accept the latter, then the results of his research will in all probability contradict the beliefs of the Church, but this is because he has begged the question from the start. In examining, for instance, the evidence for the virginal conception [of Jesus], if he begins with the presupposition that such an event is impossible he will end with the same conclusion; if he begins with the presupposition that it is possible he may end with the conclusion that the evidence for it is good or that it is bad or that it is inconclusive. This is as far as scholarship can take him. The Christian will accept the virginal conception as part of the Church's faith. (Continued tomorrow).

A friend should bear a friend's infirmities, But Brutus makes mine greater than they are.

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/51290

A friend should bear a friend's infirmities, But Brutus makes mine greater than they are.

Where there is peace, God is.

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/50083

Where there is peace, God is.

They're not really going to throw much new stuff at you on a Wednesday but there's still some stuff we've ...

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/32811

They're not really going to throw much new stuff at you on a Wednesday but there's still some stuff we've got to change up.

The best cure for worry, depression, melancholy, brooding, is to go deliberately forth and try to lift with one's sympathy ...

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/11935

The best cure for worry, depression, melancholy, brooding, is to go deliberately forth and try to lift with one's sympathy the gloom of somebody else.

The closed door and the sealed lips are prerequisites to tyranny.

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/59990

The closed door and the sealed lips are prerequisites to tyranny.

No one can really honestly be the very best, no one.

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/65496

No one can really honestly be the very best, no one.

Morality is the theory that every h uman act must be either right or wrong, and that 99 % of ...

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/43154

Morality is the theory that every h uman act must be either right or wrong, and that 99 % of them are wrong.

He said there were too many incidents, but there's not enough incidents to make a drastic change in the program ...

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/38133

He said there were too many incidents, but there's not enough incidents to make a drastic change in the program at this point in time.

He who moves not forward goes backward! A capital saying!

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/48366

He who moves not forward goes backward! A capital saying!

She was one of those who by fortune's boon Are born, as they say, with a silver spoon In ...

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/50165

She was one of those who by fortune's boon Are born, as they say, with a silver spoon In her mouth, not a wooden ladle.

Of all nature's gifts to the human race, what is sweeter to a man than his children?

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/43712

Of all nature's gifts to the human race, what is sweeter to a man than his children?

True wisdom lies in gathering the precious things out of each day as it goes by.

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/1265

True wisdom lies in gathering the precious things out of each day as it goes by.

Lower your voice and strengthen your argument.

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/3067

Lower your voice and strengthen your argument.

A good history covers not only what was done, but the thought that went into the action.
