"We were buried with Christ through our baptism (and so entered) into a state of death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the splendor of the Father, we too might walk in the newness which belongs to (real) life." To the rite as such Paul did not attach overwhelming importance. "Christ", he says, "did not send me to baptize, but to preach the Gospel." Paul recognized in the idea a most suggestive figure for the change wrought by faith in Christ. He found it necessary to guard against the crude sacramentalism which found in the mere physical process, as such, the actual impartation of new life, quite apart from anything taking place in the realm of inward experience. The Israelites in the wilderness ... received baptism in the Red Sea and in the cloud which overshadowed them; and yet they were disobedient, "the majority of them God did not choose," and they perished miserably. The inference is plain. No sacramental act achieves anything unless it is an outward symbol of what really happens inwardly in experience. The test of that is the reality of the new life as exhibited in its ethical consequences. "How can we who are dead to sin live any longer in sin?" If baptism is a real dying and rising again, then it is indeed a profound revolution in the personal life, a revolution which is simply bound to show itself in a new moral character.

The only people who never fail are those who never try.

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/22182

The only people who never fail are those who never try.

I believe God gives you the grace to do what you need to do.

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/64783

I believe God gives you the grace to do what you need to do.

Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see the shadow.

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/5852

Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see the shadow.

The hair she means to have is gold, Her eyes are blue, she's twelve weeks old, Plump are her ...

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/3640

The hair she means to have is gold, Her eyes are blue, she's twelve weeks old, Plump are her fists and pinky. She fluttered down in lucky hour From some blue deep in yon sky bower-- I call her "Little Dinky."

We outgrew this space a long time ago. For how else can we explain the success of those we don't like? •Jean Cocteau Sometimes I worry about being a success in a mediocre world. •Lily Tomlin The penalty for success is to be bored by the people who used to snub you. •Nancy Astor For you to be successful, sacrifices must be made. It's better that they are made by others but failing that, you'll have to make them yourself. •Rita Mae Brown Part of the secret of success in life is to eat what you like and let the food fight it out inside. •Mark Twain The way to learn to do things is to do things. The way to learn a trade is to work at it. Success teaches how to succeed. Begin with the determination to succeed, and the work is half done already. •J.N. Fadenburg Make a success of living by seeing the goal and aiming for it unswervingly. •Cecil B. Demille I am not bound to win, but I am bound to be true. I am not bound to succeed, but I am bound to live by the light that I have. •Abraham Lincoln The secret of success is honesty and fair dealing. If you can fake those, you've got it made. •Groucho Marx Americans are the only people in the world known to me whose status anxiety prompts them to advertise their college and university affiliations in the rear window of their automobiles.

Prejudices, it is well known, are most difficult to eradicate from the heart whose soil has never been loosened or ...

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/48105

Prejudices, it is well known, are most difficult to eradicate from the heart whose soil has never been loosened or fertilised by education; they grow there, firm as weeds among stones.

Love is an ideal thing, marriage is a real thing.
