For how else can we explain the success of those we don't like? •Jean Cocteau Sometimes I worry about being a success in a mediocre world. •Lily Tomlin The penalty for success is to be bored by the people who used to snub you. •Nancy Astor For you to be successful, sacrifices must be made. It's better that they are made by others but failing that, you'll have to make them yourself. •Rita Mae Brown Part of the secret of success in life is to eat what you like and let the food fight it out inside. •Mark Twain The way to learn to do things is to do things. The way to learn a trade is to work at it. Success teaches how to succeed. Begin with the determination to succeed, and the work is half done already. •J.N. Fadenburg Make a success of living by seeing the goal and aiming for it unswervingly. •Cecil B. Demille I am not bound to win, but I am bound to be true. I am not bound to succeed, but I am bound to live by the light that I have. •Abraham Lincoln The secret of success is honesty and fair dealing. If you can fake those, you've got it made. •Groucho Marx Americans are the only people in the world known to me whose status anxiety prompts them to advertise their college and university affiliations in the rear window of their automobiles.

The twilight is sad and cloudy, The wind blows wild and free, And like the wings of sea-birds ...

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/59925

The twilight is sad and cloudy, The wind blows wild and free, And like the wings of sea-birds Flash the white caps of the sea.

Joy is the holy fire that keeps our purpose warm and our intelligence aglow

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/23401

Joy is the holy fire that keeps our purpose warm and our intelligence aglow

Freedom of expression must be considered sacred and thought can only be corrected by counter thought.

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/65360

Freedom of expression must be considered sacred and thought can only be corrected by counter thought.

Tauzin backs term limits -- But he thinks it's a bad idea.

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/47269

Tauzin backs term limits -- But he thinks it's a bad idea.

Every man has three characters -- that which he exhibits, that which he has, and that which he thinks he ...

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/5664

Every man has three characters -- that which he exhibits, that which he has, and that which he thinks he has.

Be kind to unkind people - they need it the most

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/23720

Be kind to unkind people - they need it the most

Where Andes, giant of the western star, With meteor standard to the winds unfurl'd.

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/57825

Where Andes, giant of the western star, With meteor standard to the winds unfurl'd.

He does not seem to me to be a free man who does not sometimes do nothing.

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/20360

He does not seem to me to be a free man who does not sometimes do nothing.

We can look at this as a success. All pious persons should study to fortify themselves with these counsels, lest, while they consider themselves as valiant and strenuous defenders of righteousness, they depart from the Kingdom of Heaven, which is the only Kingdom of righteousness. For since it is the will of God that the communion of his church should be maintained in this external society, those who, from an aversion of wicked men, destroy the token of that society, enter on a course in which they are in great danger of falling from the communion of the saints. .

Life is like an onion. The prophets were men called by God to serve as His messengers to a stubborn and unheeding people. They were always careful to point out that they were not voicing their own wisdom. Their warnings, entreaties, and promises were always prefaced by the awesome proclamation: "Thus says the Lord..." When the prophets did engage in prognostication, they usually were concerned with events which were fairly close at hand, such as the Assyrian conquest of Israel and the Babylonian conquest of Judah (both of which they foretold with deadly accuracy). But occasionally a prophet's vision ranged farther into the future, to the day when God would enter into a new covenant with his rebellious children. The hope of reconciliation was often linked with the coming of a very particular person, a Messiah or Savior. What made the prophets so sure that they had a right--nay, a duty, to speak in the name of God? It is clear from their writings that they were not megalomaniacs who confused their own thoughts with the voice of God. On the contrary, they were humble men, awe-stricken by the responsibilities thrust upon them... The prophets minced no words in their indictments of the sins of Israel and Judah, and they trod especially hard on the toes of the rich, the powerful, and the pious. The Establishment responded then as some church members are wont to respond now when a preacher speaks out on controversial public issues: "One should not preach of such things!" (Micah 2:6).

Boys will be boys, and so will a lot of middle-aged men.

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/4808

Boys will be boys, and so will a lot of middle-aged men.

If we don't succeed, we run the risk of failure.

http://maxioms.com/maxiom/27619

If we don't succeed, we run the risk of failure.
